Personal Statements Workshop Series – Presented by the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships and the Writing Studio
Personal Statements 101 - June 15th, 2021 @ 12:30 - 2:00
Are you having challenges fitting your internship, research, or work experiences into a 300-word limit prompt? Trying to decide which accomplishments and experiences would be of most interest to a scholarship selection committee?Unsure how to tie your extracurricular activities anecdote into your interest in graduate school? We’re here to help! The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (OURF) and the Writing Studio at Georgia State invite you to join us for “Personal Statements 101.”
In this workshop, students will work with Writing Studio tutors and OURF staff to learn how to define the personal statement; identify personal statement do’s and don’ts; identify which writing process works best for them when constructing a personal statement; and start drafting (or revising!) their own personal statements. Students at any stage of the writing process are welcome!

Personal Statements 205 - July 15th (Time TBA)
Our second workshop on personal statements is for students who have identified an opportunity to apply for and want to know how to take the next step. If you have a draft or are just getting started on one, this session is for you! We will dedicate most of our time to smaller, break out groups built around discussion, writing time, and guidance from session leaders—staff of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (OURF) and tutors from the Writing Studio. This 90-minute session is ideal for students thinking about Fulbright U.S. Program, Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, and other fall-deadline scholarships and fellowships.
